What’s actually in Westlake Village tap water

This is our home town, so we will be specific about it. Westlake Village is served by California Water Service’s Westlake District, which does not pump local groundwater for you — it purchases imported surface water from the Metropolitan Water District through Calleguas. In practice that means your tap water starts in the Feather River watershed, runs down the State Water Project, and is treated at Metropolitan’s Jensen plant. It meets every state and federal standard. It is also hard:

  • Total hardness: 146 ppm — about 8.5 grains per gallon (water drawn from Lake Bard runs 156 ppm)
  • Total dissolved solids: 362 ppm (Lake Bard: 420 ppm)
  • Sodium: 64 ppm (Lake Bard: 81 ppm)
